Develop high ethical standards

Virtually all societies have developed rules and regulations about how business should be transacted and how business organisations should be managed.

Did you know that high ethical standards are built right into the Objects of Rotary?

The Four-Way Test is an ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships.

Enhance your Rotary experience

Rotary Fellowships are international groups that share a common passion.  Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world, explore a hobby or profession, and enhance your Rotary experience.  Learn more at https://www.rotary.org/en/our-programs/more-fellowships

Rotary Action Groups are independent, Rotary-affiliated groups made up of people from around the world who are experts in a particular field, such as economic development, peace, addiction prevention, the environment, or water.  Anyone who wants to share their expertise to make a positive difference can join an action group. Learn more at https://my.rotary.org/en/take-action/empower-leaders/rotary-action-groups

Diverse social events

The connections made and camaraderie developed among Rotarians, their partners and families is strong and often lifelong.  This social connection is a mainstay of why people join and more, why they stay.

Whether it is the social activities of clubs, the larger events such as conferences or international Rotary events or belonging to an international recreational group within Rotary, the opportunity to meet and share experiences and life with men and women across all backgrounds and cultures is ever present.

The work of Rotary begins in the community

The work of Rotary begins in the community, and every community has its own unique needs and concerns.  While we serve in countless ways, we’ve focused our efforts in six key areas to maximise our impact. These areas encompass some of the world’s most critical and widespread humanitarian needs, and we have a proven record of success in addressing them:

  • Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
  • Disease prevention and treatment
  • Water and sanitation
  • Maternal and child health
  • Basic education and literacy
  • Economic and community development

Work on global projects

Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) was formed to enable Australian Rotarians, Rotary Districts and Rotary Clubs to assist disadvantaged communities and individuals through humanitarian aid projects.

RAWCS has a financial infrastructure system that facilitates fundraising for projects that deliver humanitarian aid and charitable support in Australia and overseas.

A new way to serve your community

As you may already be aware, the provisional Rotary Club of Sunshine Coast Passport is the proposed new, innovative Rotary club based on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.  While it is based there it is without any geographic boundary.

Passport Rotary is a new version of Rotary club that encourages members to engage in service in ways that fit within their family, work and life commitments.

It provides a passport into Rotary – for people who have busy lives and commitments – and access to other Rotary clubs.

It also encourages members to visit their local community and work out how we can all better work together to make a difference.

“You might ask what’s different – well plenty,” said 28-year-old member Stephanie Kay.

“Sunshine Coast Passport Rotary is designed for the 21st Century.  It offers flexible, relaxed meeting formats and caters for the needs of busy people and families.”

Ms Kay said importantly, members decided how much time to give.

“Unlike traditional service clubs, you only need to attend a minimum of one meeting a year and only need to commit to a minimum of 30 hours service work during the year.

“Many of our members will want to contribute to much more, but it’s totally up to you – we all have unique and evolving priorities and this new format recognises that.”

Ms Kay said the Sunshine Coast Passport Rotary club was a mix of online and in-person meetings and would concentrate on project participation, focussing on initiatives that supported the Sunshine Coast.

“We are also keen to work very closely with other Rotary clubs in completing local projects.

“If you’ve always been interested in a service club but thought you didn’t have the time, or you wanted a more flexible approach to volunteering, get in touch.

“We still need more members to get off the ground and become a fully-fledged Rotary club but the opportunities Rotary can offer you are endless.

“Rotarians are volunteers who take action to create lasting change – who wouldn’t want to be part of that?”
